A Tabriz from Iran, measuring 80 × 127 cm. The covered area is about 1.02 m² (2.6' × 4.2'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.

On the knot count

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

It is catalogued under blue / Türkis. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
