Description

Overview

This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 200 × 310 cm. The covered area is about 6.2 m² (6.6' × 10.2'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Where it fits

The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

How it reads

Colour is recorded as red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
