Overview

This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 152 × 100 cm. The covered area is about 1.52 m² (5' × 3.3'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as approx. 8 mm. Weight is given as ap. 5 kg.

The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.

On the knot count

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as black and grey. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.

Age and condition

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
