The piece in short

This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 151 × 200 cm. It covers approximately 3.02 m², or 5' × 6.6'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

Colour and appearance

The stated colourway is red and orange. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
