Origin Iran, format 229 × 155 cm — a Nain made entirely by hand. It covers approximately 3.55 m², or 7.5' × 5.1'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as approx. 6 mm. Weight is given as approx. 9 kg.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 600,000–699,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as Weiß / beige. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
