Origin Iran, format 198 × 249 cm — a Nain made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 4.93 m² (6.5' × 8.2'). Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 5-7mm.

Format and use

Large enough to hold a full seating group.

The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

How it reads

Colour is recorded as Weiß / beige. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
