A Isfahan from Iran, measuring 80 × 123 cm. That is roughly 0.98 m² of floor, about 2.6' × 4'. Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.

Materials and construction

Stated material: new wool, silk, silk warp. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. At this size it works as an entryway mat or a bedside rug.

On the knot count

The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

How it reads

The stated colourway is red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
