The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 85 × 136 cm — a Isfahan made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 1.16 m² (2.8' × 4.5'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.

Materials and construction

Stated material: new wool, silk, silk warp. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

How it reads

Colour is recorded as red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
