The piece in short

Hand-knotted in Iran: a Tabriz of 80 × 115 cm. The covered area is about 0.92 m² (2.6' × 3.8'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. A small format, at home in a hallway, beside a bed, or in front of a bench.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

How it reads

Colour is recorded as red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
