The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 357 × 250 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 8.93 m² (11.7' × 8.2'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

What it is made of

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as approx. 10 mm. Weight is given as ap. 30 kg.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. A format for large rooms, with space for an entire seating arrangement.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

How it reads

Colour is recorded as Braun / Gelb. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.

Age

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
