Tabriz Persian Rug — hand-knotted, 290 × 200 cm, Wool

Overview

Origin Iran, format 290 × 200 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 5.8 m² of floor, about 9.5' × 6.6'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as approx. 8 mm. Weight is given as ap. 18 kg.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. A size where sofa and armchairs can rest their front legs on the rug.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². Knotting at this density allows detailed drawing and soft transitions between colours.

On the colourway

It is catalogued under Braun / Gelb. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.

Age and condition

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
