The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 100 × 147 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. It covers approximately 1.47 m², or 3.3' × 4.8'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². A knot count at this level belongs to the upper quality class of handmade rugs.

Colour and appearance

Colour is recorded as Braun / Gelb. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
