The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 80 × 130 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. It covers approximately 1.04 m², or 2.6' × 4.3'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Where it fits

The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². A knot count at this level belongs to the upper quality class of handmade rugs.

Colour and appearance

The stated colourway is blue / Türkis. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
