Description

The piece in short

Hand-knotted in Iran: a Tabriz of 250 × 350 cm. That is roughly 8.75 m² of floor, about 8.2' × 11.5'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: new wool, silk, silk warp. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 5-7mm.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. A format for large rooms, with space for an entire seating arrangement.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

The stated colourway is Weiß / beige. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
