A Qom from Iran, measuring 50 × 50 cm. That is roughly 0.25 m² of floor, about 1.6' × 1.6'. Qom is known for very finely knotted rugs, often in silk.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as approx. 8 mm. Weight is given as ap. 2 kg.

The rug is square. A small format, at home in a hallway, beside a bed, or in front of a bench.

The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

How it reads

Colour is recorded as multicolour. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
