The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 80 × 126 cm — a Nain made entirely by hand. That is roughly 1.01 m² of floor, about 2.6' × 4.1'. Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.

What it is made of

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Where it fits

The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 700,000–799,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as blue / Türkis. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
