Description
Roughly 3.1 million knots tied by hand into 8.79 m² — a Nain rug from Iran, 353 × 249 cm. Nain came out of a wool-cloth trade that collapsed; the town turned its looms to carpets and kept the fineness. The stated density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m² — a solid workshop density. Wool and silk in the pile, cotton in the warp. The silk takes the highlights and the wool the body — you can feel the difference with a hand across the surface. The cotton foundation holds it flat and dimensionally stable. With 8.79 m² it covers the seating area without running to the walls. Proportion 1.42:1. This is the only example of this rug; when it is gone the size and drawing do not repeat.
