Origin Iran, format 156 × 234 cm — a Nain made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 3.65 m² (5.1' × 7.7'). Nain rugs are traditionally finely knotted, with pale ivory and blue palettes.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 5-7mm.

Where it fits

The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 900,000–999,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

The stated colourway is red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
