Description

Overview

A Kashmir Oriental rug from India, measuring 243 × 243 cm. It covers approximately 5.90 m², or 8.0′ × 8.0′. Kashmir rugs are knotted in northern India in the Persian tradition, usually in silk or a silk-like fibre, with densely drawn floral fields.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, silk. The rug was knotted entirely by hand on the loom, which is why the surface is not mechanically even but carries the small irregularities that mark hand work. A silk pile changes tone with the angle of view: the same area reads lighter or darker as you move around it. The cotton warp holds the rug flat and keeps it dimensionally stable.

Format and use

The rug is round or oval. This is the classic living-room size: a seating group can stand on it with the border still visible. In our size filter it is listed under approx. 250×250cm.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². This is a fine count. Curved lines stay smooth and small motifs remain legible at arm’s length.

Age and condition

Stated age: contemporary. The pile is still full and largely unwalked. The dominant colour range is red and orange. The piece is a one-off: in this combination of size, material, knot count and drawing it exists exactly once, and it cannot be reordered once sold.
