The piece in short

A Isfahan from Iran, measuring 317 × 400 cm. The covered area is about 12.68 m² (10.4' × 13.1'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 5-7mm.

Where it fits

The rug is rectangular. A format for large rooms, with space for an entire seating arrangement.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

Colour and appearance

Colour is recorded as red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
