Overview

A Isfahan from Iran, measuring 310 × 408 cm. The covered area is about 12.65 m² (10.2' × 13.4'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.

Where it fits

The rug is rectangular. A format for large rooms, with space for an entire seating arrangement.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

Colour and appearance

Colour is recorded as red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
