The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 335 × 225 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 7.54 m² of floor, about 11' × 7.4'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as approx. 10 mm. Weight is given as ap. 30 kg.

Where it fits

The rug is rectangular. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 200,000–299,999 knots/m². In the mid range the pattern stays clearly legible without making the rug delicate.

How it reads

The stated colourway is red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.

Age and condition

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
