The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 67 × 50 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 0.34 m² of floor, about 2.2' × 1.6'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as approx. 6 mm. Weight is given as ap. 2 kg.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. At this size it works as an entryway mat or a bedside rug.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as black and grey. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.

Period

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. Being recent, the pile shows little wear and holds its full height.
