Description

Overview

Origin Iran, format 65 × 100 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 0.65 m² of floor, about 2.1' × 3.3'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

What it is made of

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. A small format, at home in a hallway, beside a bed, or in front of a bench.

On the knot count

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². A knot count at this level belongs to the upper quality class of handmade rugs.

On the colourway

It is catalogued under multicolour. Silk takes light differently from wool, so the same area can look pale from one side and deep from the other.
