Origin Iran, format 80 × 130 cm — a Isfahan made entirely by hand. It covers approximately 1.04 m², or 2.6' × 4.3'. Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.

Construction

Stated material: new wool, silk, silk warp. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. At this size it works as an entryway mat or a bedside rug.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

Colour and appearance

Colour is recorded as red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
