The piece in short

This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 192 × 141 cm. It covers approximately 2.71 m², or 6.3' × 4.6'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as approx. 10 mm. Weight is given as ap. 8 kg.

The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.

The stated knot density is 200,000–299,999 knots/m². In the mid range the pattern stays clearly legible without making the rug delicate.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as Weiß / beige. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.

Stated age: antique. In a rug of this age, patina and some pile loss belong to the picture.
