The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 317 × 430 cm — a Sarouk made entirely by hand. That is roughly 13.63 m² of floor, about 10.4' × 14.1'. Sarouk rugs are known for dense knotting and floral motifs.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Format and use

A format for large rooms, with space for an entire seating arrangement.

On the knot count

The stated knot density is 400,000–499,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

Colour and appearance

Colour is recorded as red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
