Overview

A Turkmen from Iran, measuring 178 × 135 cm. It covers approximately 2.4 m², or 5.8' × 4.4'.

Materials and construction

Stated material: new wool, silk warp. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as approx. 8 mm. Weight is given as ap. 6 kg.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as green / Oliv. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.

Age

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
