Description

Overview

Origin Iran, format 80 × 122 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 0.98 m² of floor, about 2.6' × 4'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

What it is made of

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as red and orange. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
