Origin Iran, format 72 × 125 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 0.9 m² (2.4' × 4.1'). Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. Construction method: hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. At this size it works as an entryway mat or a bedside rug.

On the knot count

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as multicolour. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
