Description

Overview

Origin Iran, format 70 × 148 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. It covers approximately 1.04 m², or 2.3' × 4.9'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Format and use

Small enough to sit in front of a dresser or just inside a door.

On the knot count

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

On the colourway

Colour is recorded as red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
