This Tabriz comes from Iran and measures 60 × 90 cm. That is roughly 0.54 m² of floor, about 2' × 3'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

What it is made of

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool, silk. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

The rug is rectangular. A small format, at home in a hallway, beside a bed, or in front of a bench.

The stated knot density is 500,000–599,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

It is catalogued under red and orange. Depending on the light and the direction you look from, the surface reads lighter or darker — a property of every handmade rug.
