Description

About this rug

Hand-knotted in Iran: a Tabriz of 318 × 200 cm. It covers approximately 6.36 m², or 10.4' × 6.6'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as approx. 8 mm. Weight is given as ap. 18 kg.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

How it reads

The stated colourway is black and grey. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.

Age

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
