Origin Iran, format 300 × 300 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 9 m² of floor, about 9.8' × 9.8'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: new wool, silk, silk warp. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 7-10mm.

Where it fits

The rug is round. At this size the rug defines the room rather than accenting it.

Fineness of the knotting

The stated knot density is 1,000,000+ knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

Colour and appearance

It is catalogued under red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
