The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 170 × 240 cm — a Isfahan made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 4.08 m² (5.6' × 7.9'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.

Materials and construction

Stated material: new wool, silk, silk warp. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.

Where it fits

The rug is rectangular. At this size it anchors a living room as the central surface.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 800,000–899,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

Colour and appearance

Colour is recorded as red and orange. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.
