The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 150 × 237 cm — a Isfahan made entirely by hand. The covered area is about 3.56 m² (4.9' × 7.8'). Isfahan has stood for exceptionally fine knotting for centuries.

Materials and construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. The rug was hand-knotted throughout. Pile height is given as 10-12mm.

Size and placement

The rug is rectangular. Large enough to hold a full seating group.

On the knot count

The stated knot density is 700,000–799,999 knots/m². Very fine knotting of this kind takes many times the working hours and shows correspondingly precise pattern work.

How it reads

The stated colourway is multicolour. Handmade rugs always show slight colour shifts from knot to knot — that is a mark of hand work, not a defect.
