The piece in short

Origin Iran, format 151 × 100 cm — a Tabriz made entirely by hand. That is roughly 1.51 m² of floor, about 5' × 3.3'. Tabriz is one of the oldest and most important weaving centres in Persia.

Construction

Stated material: cotton warp, new wool. It is entirely hand-knotted. Pile height is given as approx. 8 mm. Weight is given as ap. 5 kg.

Format and use

The rug is rectangular. A format for a smaller room, or the area directly in front of a sofa.

Knot density and quality

The stated knot density is 300,000–399,999 knots/m². At this density even small-scale motifs can be worked out cleanly.

Colour and appearance

It is catalogued under multicolour. With traditionally dyed wool, small variations of tone within one field are normal.

Age and condition

Stated age: contemporary, 0–20 years old. As a contemporary piece the pile is still even and largely unwalked.
